WATCH OWLS

SUMMARY:

Watch Owls are 100% fully in charge of running The Tree of Time and all things related to time travel on Golden Cloth. They were once less “important” on the island but when the citizens of GC realized that time travel needed to be regulated and The Tree of Time needed gatekeepers, the Owls volunteered and have since taken the responsibility very very seriously.

ORIGIN OF NAME: 

They are the regulators of time travel and the guardians of the portals, hence… “Watch Owls.”

APPEARANCE: 

Despite having the same voice and same general demeanor, every owl looks different and is subtly reminiscent to the destination of their portal (the owl manning the portal to Rome may talk a lot with his wings, the owl from Paris may have feathers on his head that resemble a beret, etc.  

DISPOSITION: 

Watch Owls take their jobs EXTREMELY seriously but they also remain incredibly calm under all conditions. They have the final say on all time-related travel, bending, slowing, speeding, stopping, starting, skipping, knotting, looping, reversing and there’s really no point trying to plead or bargain with them. They simply trust their GUTT. (Guide to Universal Time Travel) period (except with Nestor who can on occasion show them that everything is interpretable). Despite being very intelligent, they are not very witty. They will occasionally attempt to make “Dad joke” type jokes but their timing and phrasing is terrible. 

FOOD/DRINK: 

It’s nice to tip your Owl with a couple of berries.

WHY READERS WILL CARE: 

They are a grounding, comforting force of order despite being a little annoyingly strict.
